The Skin and Coat Play a Very Important Role in Animal Health

The skin acts as a barrier that prevents water loss, reducing the risk of dehydration, and helps regulate body temperature.

Together with the coat, it provides protection against parasites, stores fat, water, and vitamins, and selects health-benefiting bacteria. Therefore, if your cat or dog shows signs like dry and irritated skin, dry or oily coat, excessive shedding, dandruff, or itching, it is important to take them to the vet for guidance on the best solution.

Fish Oil: A Friend in Maintaining Coat Health

The fatty acids found in fish oil are essential for maintaining good skin and coat health in cats and dogs, and should be included in their diet whenever possible.

Fatty acids (EPA and DHA) are important components of cellular membranes in both humans and animals, with the ability to reduce inflammation and promote neuronal development.

DHA, in particular, is important for the nervous development of both kittens and puppies during pregnancy as it affects cell permeability and the growth of nerve cells.

Several studies have shown that administering fish oil to cats and dogs resulted in significant improvements in skin-related issues and enhanced the appearance of the coat, making it shinier and softer while reducing shedding.

In the case of joint diseases, as they are associated with inflammation and reduced mobility, it has been demonstrated that an adequate dose of omega-3 fatty acids helps relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis. In the case of heart disease, supplementation for cats and dogs can help reduce inflammation and muscle loss associated with heart failure.
