Our pets are part of the family, and it’s only natural that we want to take them with us on holidays or outings. However, car travel can be difficult, as many cats and dogs dislike it, get motion sickness, or become anxious, which can be dangerous both for them and their tutors.

Follow our tips and have a safe trip!

Here are some tips you should adopt to make each trip a pleasant experience, both for the pets and their tutors.

The First Trip

Start by taking short car trips to help your pet get used to it.

Frequent Short Trips

Travel to different places often, not just for veterinary visits, so they don’t associate car travel with a negative experience.

Comfort

Create a comfortable environment with appropriate space, temperature, and noise levels for your pet.

Blankets and Toys

Items like blankets not only protect your car but also help your pet feel cozier. Providing toys will keep them distracted during the trip.

Safety

Ensure safe transport: a pet carrier, a pet seat belt, or a separation net between the back of the car and the passenger area. Any of these options could work for your pet.

Avoid Motion Sickness

It’s not recommended to feed your pet shortly before the trip starts. Animals can get motion sickness during travel.

Long Trips

If you're taking a longer trip, make stops at least every 2 hours. During breaks, offer fresh water and take a short walk so they can relieve themselves. Depending on the length of the trip, you can also feed them.

Reward

Don't forget to reward them at the end of the trip!
